STEELMAKING INDUSTRY
Ferro alloy and pig iron supply for deoxidation, desulfurization and alloying in steelworks and integrated steel plants. High-purity ferrochrome, ferromanganese, ferrosilicon and steel pig iron solutions for EAF and BOF facilities.
Sector Overview
The steelmaking industry is the largest consumer of ferroalloys. In both integrated plants (BOF) and Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) mini-mills, ferroalloys are critical additives that determine the mechanical properties of steel.
After melting scrap steel in EAF plants, ferrosilicon and ferromanganese are used for deoxidation and desulfurization in ladle metallurgy. Dissolved oxygen is bound to improve internal structure quality; sulfur removal prevents hot shortness. Ferrochrome, the essential raw material for stainless steel production, is the primary alloying element providing corrosion resistance.
Steel pig iron provides a cleaner iron input compared to scrap in EAF plants, diluting unwanted residual elements like copper and tin. Global steel production reached 1.8 billion tons in 2025, with Turkey at 38.1 million tons as a significant producer.
